Reaching out to the Jambi Malay in Indonesia The Adopt-A-People project is an important missionary effort of Woodland Hills Church. The project began several years ago by a small group of people who had a heart for missions to unreached peoples.
The term “unreached people” refers to a culture, tribe, or ethnically connected group of people who have no Christian witness in their own language. When we adopt an unreached people, we are not adopting the people group into our congregation. Rather, we are praying, giving, and serving in order to see people be adopted into God’s family.
Adopting a people means making a commitment to an unreached people until an indigenous, reproducing church is established among them. This commitment includes informed, concerned, and dedicated prayer and other means of support for the people group. It means maintaining that commitment until the church planted can reach the rest of the people without needing outside, cross-cultural help. By adopting a people, we are helping to fulfill Christ’s mandate in Matthew 28:19 to “…go and make disciples of all nations.”
