Life is like baseball. Sometimes we get fastballs—too much going on and very little time to be still. Sometimes we get curveballs, and we have no control over the sudden change. Sometimes we get sliders—we hope “such-n-such” will happen, but it doesn’t, and we are left in the dirt with unfulfilled expectations. The Spirit-filled life does not approach Jesus with any claims of self-righteousness, goodness, or anything else. The only thing we are to bring to Jesus is our sin. In return, he gives us his righteousness! Those who live Spirit-filled lives come to Jesus with no pretense. When we genuinely confess our sin and bring it to him, he is faithful to forgive us and bring us to a new spiritual level and show other areas in our life we must relinquish as well. Then, life can throw fastballs, curveballs or sliders, and any disillusionment that may result will only produce a person who attains a new spiritual level and who realizes there is another area he or she must relinquish.
Lord, I come To you with my sin. I release any claims Of good I’ve been.
Please open my eyes To see the log Don’t let me stay In a self-righteous fog.
Help me relinquish Any claim to me. Generate conviction In the sin You see.
Make me fit For all You require. Help me stay the course And for You, never tire.
