 Dave Skramstad was looking for some answers. He found the Alpha Course while surfing Woodland Hills’ website and decided to attend the course. Now Dave’s life is different. But it started like so many others: “I had a lot of questions and few real answers. Much of my life had been focused on pursuing purely secular goals.”
That’s true of most of us at some point in our life. If it’s true for you now, you may want to attend Alpha. Others are not sure if they’re Christians – they’re just looking for answers. Still others aren’t sure they believe anything or may even be atheists, but they come because they are invited or Alpha is recommended. Alpha creates a safe environment that encourages open and frank discussion where every question is legitimate. Everyone is allowed to start their search for truth from right where they are; there are no prerequisites for Alpha.
Alpha is an introduction to the Christian faith. In ten weekly sessions a variety of fundamental topics are covered such as prayer, the Bible, and who is Jesus? Around each of these sessions are dinner, dessert, and friendly small group discussion. But is it fun? Ask Dave what he likes best: “I enjoyed the small group discussions, where stimulating, thought provoking questions are encouraged. The fellowship of the group facilitators and attendees is a close second.”
Alpha has a great success rate. It’s not just information, but information with the potential to change a person’s life. Many  admit to being changed in some significant way by attending Alpha. It had tremendous impact on Dave: “I have chosen to learn more about the Christian faith and practice its principles to the best of my ability. I regularly attend Woodland Hills Church and a Covenant Group. My life has been enriched through the process and I look forward to more spiritual growth in the future.”
For a Christian, Alpha is one of the best and easiest ways to get someone else to hear the message of hope contained in the Gospel. All you have to do is come for yourself and invite a friend who isn’t sure what Christianity is really all about. The Alpha team will do the rest.
Alpha really is phenomenal. The Alpha Course is being presented in over 10,000 churches across the world, and most everyone that attends it regards it as a very positive experience, no matter where they started from. Ask Dave if he would recommend it: “Absolutely! It’s a great place to be introduced or reintroduced to the Christian faith as well as a good place to make new friends and have fun.”
