My mom is going through terrible suffering from a terminal illness. Her lungs are slowly deteriorating. When Jesus died on the cross, His lungs slowly gave out. And like Jesus, my mom is also very strong – always has been. While Jesus has been the Rock of Ages, my mom has been the rock of my life. Her love, wisdom, joy and grace are second only to God.
My mom and dad have been married for over 56 years. Over the summer, she and I had some intimate sharing when she talked about her faith and her husband. It was an emotional but beautiful time, and the only time she broke down and cried was when she said, “I am so scared for dad to be alone after I am gone.” That is what love does to one after 56 years.
They have taught dance lessons since I was little, and at a family wedding this summer, my parents got out on the floor by themselves for what may have been their last dance together. While I watched them dance, I cried; however, through my tears I imagined them dancing together in heaven on God’s golden dance floor in their robes of righteousness with Jesus watching and the angels cheering. It will happen – you will see.
You carried me Before my birth. You formed me with love And showed my infinite worth.
You invested your time To teach what is timeless. You spoke golden nuggets That taught what is priceless.
You helped me take The first steps on my own. And when I left with my wife Your tears showed what you’ve sown.
You dress me for winter For the cold winds of life. You put on my raincoat When life rains it’s strife.
The light for my journey Is the wisdom you’ve shared. And the pedestal I stand on Is the sacrifice you’ve bore.
Though the doctors did cut My umbilical cord We’re one 'cuz your love Modeled the love of my Lord.
