For Christians, every season is a “Season of Giving”. However, the holidays provide some unique opportunities to give in ways that are not available at other times of the year. A partnership between Woodland Hills and Jesus in the City Church provided one such opportunity called “Christmas in the City.”

When Woodland Hills Church rolled out its Growing in the Spirit project during the first months of 2003, Senior Pastor Greg Boyd mentioned the The Sanctuary as one of its partner ministries.  Efrem Smith had recently launched this church plant in North Minneapolis, and Boyd said he wanted Woodland Hills to help Smith avoid "ten years worth of mistakes" the leadership learned first-hand guiding Woodland Hills.

One Sunday morning in October 1992, an 87 year-old woman gave her heart to Jesus Christ in the auditorium of a middle school in Woodbury.  She was the very first convert for Woodland Hills Church, during its very first service.

“I call myself grandma, but Greg Boyd calls me spunky.” Adella quips while tying her bright lavender scarf. “I’m 84; these guys are still kids.” Adella is one of several seniors who come to Woodland Hills each Friday morning to assemble bulletins for the weekend services.
